When a London-based technology company decided to refresh their office ahead of a major office expansion, they approached us to carry out a complete interior repaint. The 4,000 sq ft open-plan office needed to be completely transformed — and the catch was that it needed to be done with zero impact on their team's working week.
The Brief
The client wanted to move away from the outdated magnolia and cream colour scheme that the office had been stuck with for years. They had worked with an interior designer to select a new palette: a deep teal feature wall running the full length of the main floor, warm white walls throughout, and crisp bright white for all ceilings and trim. The reception area was to receive a branded accent colour in the company's corporate green.
The absolute requirement was that painting had to be completed entirely outside of working hours — evenings and weekends only — to avoid any disruption to the team or their work.
Planning the Works
We visited the office in advance for a detailed survey and produced a phased work schedule. The open plan was divided into three zones, with each zone scheduled for overnight completion. The reception and meeting rooms were scheduled for the first weekend, and the kitchen and welfare areas for a second weekend phase.
We specified low-VOC, quick-drying commercial paints throughout to minimise odour and ensure the space could be safely reoccupied the following morning. All furniture was either moved to the centre of the space or covered with protective dustsheets.
Preparation
Despite the office being relatively modern, there was the usual array of marks, scuffs, and nail holes that needed filling and sanding before any painting could begin. All surfaces were thoroughly cleaned to remove grease and contamination. We paid particular attention to areas around light switches, door handles, and skirting boards where wear was most visible.
Execution
Our team of four painters worked each evening from 6pm to 3am. The deep teal feature wall required three coats to achieve full opacity over the existing light colour — we allowed proper drying time between coats and used a tack cloth between sanding passes. The bright white ceiling work was carried out using a pole roller for speed, with cutting in done carefully around all light fittings, sprinklers and air conditioning units.
The reception area accent wall was masked off precisely and painted in the client's Pantone-matched corporate green — an exact match we achieved using a premium colour-matched trade paint.
The Result
The office was completely transformed over the course of the project, with the team arriving each Monday morning to find their workspace looking better than before. The feedback from staff was overwhelmingly positive — the teal feature wall in particular became a talking point and created a visual anchor that gave the previously anonymous open floor plate a clear sense of place and identity.
The client has since recommended us to two other businesses in their building.
